The AirportHUB Program was a SITA world-wide strategic initiative to deliver a “Shared Infrastructure” into Airports in support of SITA as well as airlines; deliver a cost savings to the airlines; grow SITA’s presence and relationship within the airports; and increase SITA’s profit margin through reduced operational costs and increased revenue opportunities.
The project’s objective was to consolidate WAN services to a pair of shared redundant WAN connections per airport delivered across Orange Business Services’ (Equant) MPLS-enabled WAN backbone. Services were delivered to each Airline back office through a newly designed and implemented tiered LAN.
AirportHUB developed into a critical communications service offering for SITA with both Airlines and Airports, providing transport for critical and non-critical systems and an interface to Common Use service providers (SITA, ARINC, ULTRA, RESA).
SITA engaged Inspired Networks on the AirportHUB Program in May 2004. The program started as a 10-site pilot project, and within 4-months the project scope increased to 50 sites. The final airport was delivered in October of 2012. The AirportHUB Program encompasses over 125 Tier-1 and Tier-2 airports spanning 6 continents.
