SITA EFM Upgrade – Global Infrastructure Upgrade Project

The AirportHUB Program was a SITA world-wide strategic initiative to deliver a “Shared Infrastructure” into Airports in support of SITA as well as airlines; deliver a cost savings to the airlines; grow SITA’s presence and relationship within the airports; and increase SITA’s profit margin through reduced operational costs and increased revenue opportunities.

In 2011, SITA initiated a project to deliver a ‘Technology Refresh’ to all AirportHUB sites based on Cisco LRE or Patton ipDSLAM technologies. The ‘Technology Refresh’ represented an upgrade of the AirportHUB Access Layer, which consisted of upgrading the existing Cisco LRE and Patton ipDSLAM technologies with Alcatel-Lucent Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) Copper Line Access Switch (CLAS) platform.

The upgrade included the migration of all Airline connections from the existing Cisco LRE / Patton ipDSLAM switches to the newly deployed Alcatel-Lucent EFM switches.

The migration effort required coordination with SITA Client Support Managers (CSM’s) and Airline representatives for scheduled maintenance windows to perform the migrations and required testing.
